A true must-attend event because of its inclusive nature and its accessibility to the arts and art community.

This anniversary exhibition, presented from December 20th to January 28th 2022, examines the historical genesis of this event. A selection of works from its archives is presented to highlight the commitment of its community members and the diversity of artistic productions.

The first Art en Boite was held on April 10 1987, at Galerie Sans Nom on Main Street, and was later established every February 14th at the Aberdeen Cultural Centre. At that time, with the purchase of a ticket, you received a small pie box containing an original print.

Over the years, this box has evolved into the one we know today, the iconic pizza box. In addition, during the event, the Imago team offers the public various ingenious ways to choose their box number. By choosing a piece of a puzzle, a sticker, or even by fishing for the number, these games of chance add to the pleasure of receiving your pizza box as a surprise box.

For 35 years, Art en Boite has been synonymous with the perseverance of its members and the community, which has united for a common cause.

Curator: Emilie Grace Lavoie

The exhibit contains works from our collection of Art en Boîte archives from these artists: Herménégilde Chiasson, Mathieu Léger, Noémie DesRoches, Gilles LeBlanc, Guy Duguay, Alisa Arsenault, Amanda Dawn Christie, Christine Comeau, Robert Melanson, Angie Richard, Lisa Thériault, Mario Doucette, George Blanchette, Jacques Arseneault, Jean-Denis Boudreau, Jennifer Bélanger, Nathalie Morin, Marjolaine Bourgeois, Yvon Gallant, Angèle Cormier, Rosemary McAulay, Carole Deveau, Paul Edouard Bourque et Claire Tauvette (in order of their placement in the exhibit).

****************************************

Atelier Imago

140 rue Botsford, suite 17, Moncton NB, E1C 4X5

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow never stepped foot in the lands
of the Acadians, yet the heroine of his epic poem titled Evangeline, A Tale of
Acadie became embedded in the history and culture of Louisiana and Nova Scotia.
Longfellow’s poem received international acclaim when published in 1847. The
public was fascinated with the story of a young Acadian maiden separated from
her fiancé on her wedding day during the brutal deportation of the
French-speaking people from Acadia, and her epic journey to find him. The
success of Longfellow’s poem launched Evangeline into literary stardom and into
the hearts of the Acadian people themselves. Uniting the Acadian people of Nova
Scotia and Louisiana, Evangeline’s name and image became a symbol of Acadian
and Cajun cultural identity.

This exhibition, organized by the West Baton Rouge Museum,
provides a glimpse into Evangeline’s evolving status from her inception through
today as a legend and heroine, to a brand image and celebrity, and ultimately
into a cultural icon. Inspiring writers, artists, musicians, and entrepreneurs,
Evangeline has appeared in many guises. Along the way, her image morphed from
that of a demure Victorian-era maiden into a confident modern woman. This
exhibition includes artworks by Canadian and Louisiana artists, including
François Gaudet, Rémi Belliveau, Melissa Bonin, Mario Doucette, and George Rodrigue, as well as
artifacts and paraphernalia to demonstrate Evangeline’s transformation and her
timeless appeal. The exhibit opens Saturday, May 15 and runs through October
31st.
