PRIX ARTISTIQUE SOBEY : DIX ANS DE FINALISTES EN ATLANTIQUE


MONCTON, le 1 juin 2012 – Dans le cadre du 10e anniversaire du Prix artistique Sobey soulignant l’excellence de jeunes artistes canadiens, la Galerie d’art Louise et Reuben-Cohen accueille l’exposition Prix artistique Sobey : Dix ans de finalistes en Atlantique. Organisée par le Musée des beaux-arts de la Nouvelle-Écosse, l’exposition regroupe des œuvres des huit artistes ayant tour à tour été sélectionnés pour représenter la région atlantique à ce concours national. Le vernissage aura lieu mercredi, le 13 juin à 17 h. En début de soirée, Sarah Fillmore, commissaire en chef du Musée des beaux-arts de la Nouvelle-Écosse, présentera le travail de chaque artiste dans le contexte de l’exposition.

Établi en 2002 par la Fondation des arts Sobey, le Prix artistique Sobey est aujourd’hui une reconnaissance importante pour les artistes canadiens. Cette distinction est accordée annuellement à un artiste de 40 ans et moins et attribue 70 000 $ en prix, soit 50 000$ à l’artiste récipiendaire et 5000 $ aux quatre autres finalistes régionaux. Depuis dix ans, le prix contribue à faire mieux connaître et apprécier la production actuelle en arts visuels au Canada. Les artistes mis en nominations et retenus à titre de finalistes bénéficient de ce regard critique sur leur travail et d’une visibilité accrue à l’échelle nationale. À travers le pays, un intérêt particulier est orientée vers la production de ces artistes qui peuvent avoir été jusqu’à ce point peu connus, malgré l’importance de leur production. Grâce à la rigueur du processus de sélection, le Prix Sobey pour les arts est un gage de la qualité de la production d’un artiste et contribue à valider sa démarche artistique.

L’exposition regroupe le travail de Emily Vey Duke et Cooper Battersby, Jean-Denis Boudreau, Mario Doucette, Greg Forrest, Zeke Moores, Graeme Patterson, Mathew Reichertz et Colleen Wolstenholme.

Prix artistique Sobey : Dix ans de finalistes en Atlantique sera présenté jusqu’au 9 septembre 2012. Le vernissage du 13 juin aura lieu conjointement avec celui de l’exposition Les Acadiennes de l’Île, une exposition itinérante du Musée acadien de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard présentée au le Musée Acadien de l’Université de Moncton. La Galerie d’art Louise et Reuben-Cohen est située au 405 avenue de l’Université, dans l’édifice Clément-Cormier, sur le campus de l’Université de Moncton. Les visites sont gratuites et la galerie est ouverte de 10h à 17h du lundi au vendredi et de 13h à 17h le samedi et le dimanche. MONCTON, June 1 2012 – Celebrating ten years of the Sobey Art Award focusing on the excellence of young Canadian artists, the Louise and Reuben- Cohen Art Gallery presents a group exhibition titled Sobey Art Award: 10 Years of Atlantic Finalists. Organized by the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, the show features the work of eight artists that have been selected over the years to represent the Atlantic region in this national competition. The opening will be held on Wednesday, June 13, at 5 PM. Sarah Fillmore, chief curator at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, will present the work included in the exhibition at the start of the evening.

Established in 2002 by the Sobey Art Foundation, the Sobey Art Award has become an important recognition for Canadian artists. This distinguished award is given annually to an artist 40 years and under and comes with cash prizes of 70 000 $: 50 000 $ goes to the recipient, and 5 000 $ to each of the four remaining regional finalists. For ten years, this award has contributed to a better knowledge and appreciation of contemporary artistic expression in Canada. The nominated and shortlisted artists benefit from a critical examination of their work and an increased national awareness. Throughout all parts of the country, this enhanced visibility offers a showcase to artists that have accomplished a strong visual expression, but who may have been underrepresented in the past. Based on a rigorous curatorial selection, the Sobey Art Award also provides a standard of artistic excellence and validates the artists’ research and processes.

The exhibition includes the work of Emily Vey Duke and Cooper Battersby, Jean-Denis Boudreau, Mario Doucette, Greg Forrest, Zeke Moores, Graeme Patterson, Mathew Reichertz, and Colleen Wolstenholme.

Sobey Art Award: 10 Years of Atlantic Finalists will be on show until September 9 2012. The opening on June 13 will be held concurrently with the opening of a travelling exhibition from the Acadian Museum of Prince Edward Island titled Island Acadian Women presented at the Acadian Museum of the Université de Moncton. The Louise and Reuben-Cohen Art Gallery is located at 405 Université Avenue, in the Clément-Cormier building on the Université de Moncton campus.
