MARIO DOUCETTE, Charles de Gaulle accueil la délégation acadienne, janvier 1968; huile sur bois, 2017
Sept 26 – Oct 7, 2017
Opening reception: Mon 25 Sept, 5:30 – 7PM
Gallery 3
Mario Doucette, visiting artist
Doucette’s exhibition presents a new version of history, shedding light on our colonial past, reframing key figures and exposing false ideas. He offers, “My work stems from the hypothesis that history is a lie that no one ever questions. Often artists were obligated to convey an official message, sometimes largely tainted by political motivations, thus evoking an incomplete version of the facts. This is certainly the case of the artists who represented the history of the Acadians in Canada. It is a history that is often a one-sided perspective from a Colonial British viewpoint which presented the Acadian population in terms of a problem that needed to be solved.”

Visiting Artist Talk, Friday 29 Sept. 4:30PM

Part of Culture Days, visiting artist Mario Doucette will discuss his exhibition in Gallery 3 on Fri 29 Sept at 4:30pm. Everyone is welcome!
