Inside Out
Inside Out features the work of contemporary artists whose artmaking is informed by vernacular constructs, in terms of material choices and strategies of production and with respect to the subject matter and imagery put forth.
While the artists' practices are well-situated within the framework of contemporary art discourse, the do-it-yourself ethos and/or folk-inspired sensibilities within their work provides a fresh take on such dichotomies as insider and outsider, past and present, high art and low culture. Their practices, in turn, engage an interesting space where the language of the art world meets a more common one, that of the everyday and its people.
Included are works by artists Mario Doucette, Brian Jungen, Annie Pootoogook, Nancy Edell, David Askevold, and Gerald Ferguson.
The Western Branch of the AGNS is located in the former Royal Bank building at 341 Main Street, Yarmouth NS.
