Terroir: a Nova Scotia Retrospective
May 2015 - April 2016
Curated by David Diviney and Sarah Fillmore
Borrowing heavily from the language of wine, this three-part exhibition will look at regional artistic production through the culture from which it emerges. The word "terroir" refers to the complete natural environment in which a particular wine is produced, including factors such as the soil, topography, and climate. Terroir is a survey of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia permanent collection with a special focus on Nova Scotia roots - the history and culture of the place informing its artistic community's output. This exhibition tours the province, exploring the flavour and makeup of the work collected over the gallery's 100-year history.
Including works by: David Askevold, Teresa Bergen, Marion Bond, Wayne Boucher, Tim Brennan, David Brooks, Elizabeth Lovitt Cann, Dozay Christmas, Cora Cluett, Alex Colville, Kathleen Daly, Forshaw Day, Mabel Killam Day, Thierry Delva, Mario Doucette, Nancy Edell, Emily Falencki, Gerald Ferguson, Robert Field, Greg Forrest, Tom Forrestall, François Gaudet, John Greer, Marsden Hartley, Jacques Hurtubise, AY Jackson, Frances Jones Bannerman, Mark Kasumovic, Garry Neill Kennedy, Mrs Langille, Ernest Lawson, Arthur Lismer, Homer Lord, Alma and Ernst Lorenzen, Lucky Rabbit Pottery, JEH MacDonald, DC Cameron, Mollie Bell Mackay, Frederic McCulloch, Peter Monamy, John Montresor, Zeke Moores, Joe Norris, Elizabeth Styring Nutt, John O’Brien, Walter Ostrom, Christopher Pratt, Mary Pratt, Sir Joshua Reynolds, Henry Rosenberg, Romeo Savoie, Samuel Scott, Richard Serra, Edith Smith, Lewis Smith, Alan Syliboy, Matt Wedel, Gary Wilson, Colleen Wostenholme, Carl Zimmerman.
