In the Shadow of Evangeline: 11 New Acadian Tales
September 25, 2010-January 30, 2011

Created over the last fifteen years, In the Shadow of Evangline is the result of an initiative undertaken by the Galerie d’art de l’Université de Moncton, for the creation of works by contemporary Acadian artists with Evangeline (the well-known Acadian folk heroine of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s 1847 narrative poem) as the central focus. The artists — including Lise Robichaud, Mario Doucette, Michel Robichaud, Jennifer Bélanger, Yvon Gallant, Nancy Morin, Herménégilde Chiasson, Francis Coutellier, and Roméo Savoie— express their sense of cultural identity by interpreting the story in their own visual style.

Oakville Galleries in Gairloch Gardens and at Centennial Square. Organized and circulated by the Dunlop Art Gallery

Please join Oakville Galleries for our fall exhibition opening on Sunday 19 September from 2:30 pm–3:30 pm at Oakville Galleries at Centennial Square, followed by a reception at Oakville Galleries in Gairloch Gardens from 3:30 pm–5:00 pm. Diabolique curator Amanda Cachia will be present to speak about the exhibition.

Diabolique brings together twenty-one artists who address the impact of war, violence and human conflict on contemporary life. An electric mix of dark scenes and evocative narratives, the works in this exhibition pose pressing questions about the human capacity for violence.Marked by tangible and intangible elements of anxiety, hope and struggle, banalities and birthrights, and sublime truths within harsh realities, Diabolique begs contemplation of social and political crises both close to home and global in scale.

Diabolique features works by Bogdan Achimescu, Matilda Aslizadeh, Rebecca Belmore, Jake & Dinos Chapman, Dana Claxton, Douglas Coupland, Mario Doucette, David Garneau, William Kentridge, Wanda Koop, Fawad Khan, Emanuel Licha, Shirin Neshat, Michael Patterson-Carver, Dan Perjovschi, Raymond Pettibon, Nancy Spero, Althea Thauberger, Jason Thiry, Scott Waters, and Balint Zsako.

Sobey Art Award: 2010 Atlantic Long List

Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Halifax
August 7-November 21, 2010

Each year, 25 artists from the five regions across the country are nominated for the Sobey Art Award. This exhibition highlights the excellence of artistic production in the Atlantic Region through the diverse practices of the contemporary artists who, through various connections, identify themselves as Atlantic Canadian.

The long listed artists representing the Atlantic Region in 2010 are: Graeme Patterson (Halifax, NS), Mario Doucette (Moncton, NB), Lucie Chan (Vancouver, BC), Vanessa Paschakarnis (West Dublin, NS), and Emily Vey Duke and Cooper Battersby (Syracuse, NY).

Artist Graeme Patterson is represented by Taming The Wild (2008), a series of photographs and stop-motion puppets that collectively evoke a humourous though poignant take on our interaction with the natural world.

In Bagarres (2009-2010), Mario Doucette expands upon his revisionist interpretation of history in this series of paintings involving elements of mythology, symbolic meaning, and popular culture.

Lucie Chan’s LofoSto (2009), short for Longing for Stories, is an expansive work comprised of 106 drawings and animations exploring issues of identity in an increasingly globalized world.

Vanessa Paschakarnis presents Shadows of Domestication (2010) and Shadows for Humans (2003-2004), new and recent pieces that respond to the artist’s ongoing interest in the formal and material language of sculpture.

Lastly, collaborators Emily Vey Duke and Cooper Battersby, this year's Atlantic finalists for the 2010 Sobey Art Award, restage Reanimating the Universe with Basic Breathing Exercises (2008), an installation involving taxidermy and multiple video projections that immerse the viewer in their world of wonder.

Two Rivers Gallery - Prince George, BC

The Two Rivers Gallery 10th Anniversary 10x10x10 exhibition runs from July 2nd to August 30th 2010 in the Rustad Galleria.

Many of the artists have donated their artworks to Two Rivers Gallery and their art is included in our ongoing silent auction. Thank you to the exhibiting artists for your contribution to the first decade of art at Two Rivers Gallery and thank you to our community for your support.

Click here to see the works at auction.

It is hard to imagine that ten years ago we had just moved from the old Prince George Art Gallery into a brand new purpose built gallery, Two Rivers Gallery of Prince George and Region. With this building came an opportunity to realize our exhibition goals, expand our public programs and bring the best of contemporary Canadian art to the people of northern British Columbia. This summer marks the tenth anniversary of Two Rivers Gallery and we are celebrating with an "alumni" exhibition in the Rustad Galleria, July 2 to August 30, 2010.

10x10x10 is an exhibition and a reunion at the same time. Over 45 artists, who have exhibited in main gallery solo or small group shows over our first ten years, have contributed to the occasion. Each artist has responded to the challenge to create a 10"x10" work of art and the results serve as reminders of exhibitions past and as current explorations from old friends.

You can bid online using our Silent Auction Bid form. All bids are accepted subject to the Silent Auction Conditions of Sale.
